The enchanting sound of the silk strings and bamboo flutes bring you to China. The Silk and Bamboo (sizhu) Ensemble is a renowned string and wind group featuring virtuoso musicians from China performing the pipa (4-stringed lute), erhu (2-stringed fiddle), guzheng (zither) and the bamboo flute dizi (bamboo flute). The group has performed in the Purcell Room and Queen Elisabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre, and has appeared at festivals including the City of London, Cambridge Folk Music and Edinburgh Festivals and in Europe’s WOMEX and WOMAD Festivals. They have published several CDs as well as featured on BBC Radio 3. For this special occasion the group will present a selection of ensemble and virtuoso solo pieces of traditional/folk and modern Chinese music.
