MORE ABOUT:
DJ Scotch Egg (born Shigeru Ishihara) is a Japanese producer of chiptune/gabber music based in Brighton, England. Shige started out making improvised noise music, performing under the name Shiez 2000, and later contributed to a few little known groups including Megadrive, Noony Banoony, and The Fighting Seizure Robots Busking Crew. After moving to Brighton from Tokyo, he founded Brighton’s premier breakcore/noise music night Wrong Music with friends Ben Hudson (aka Ebola) and Matt (Roger Species). Henry Collins (Shitmat) took Shige under his wing, and convinced him to use his Game Boy to create gabber tracks. Occasionally when playing live, DJ Scotch Egg runs around the stage with his loudspeaker or microphone screaming gibberish, shouting obscenities or something related to Kentucky Fried Chicken. He puts the microphone through a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone guitar distortion pedal, to create the heavily distorted vocal sound. He usually ends the show by throwing scotch eggs at the audience. DJ Scotch Egg brings powerful cosmic energy using the simplest tools available: 4 Nintendo Gameboys and a mixer. Not a noisy release by any means, instead a fully activated set of lean muscular gabber pop music that stares boldly into the sun with the jihad of a suicide vest full of gummi bears. DJ Scotch Egg’s influences include Karlheinz Stockhausen, SKREAM, John Carpenter, Walter Carlos, Steve Reich, Moondog, John Cage, Johan Sebastian Bach amongst others. He has released music on the Wrong Music label, Adaadat and is signed to Lightning Bolt’s Load Records. Notable contributions with other artists include Ove-Naxx, Hrvatski, Mike Paradinas, Duracell, Bong-Ra, The Pipettes and The Go! Team.

PRESS REVIEWS:
“And then there’s DJ Scotch Egg. Standing at an apex of video game music, he uses four gameboys and a mixer, manipulating in real-time. Given that he began his musical forays in circuit-bending, it seems reasonable to surmise that hardware hackery is still part of his trade. Regardless, Scotch Egg (real name Shigeru Ishihara) creates day-glo gabba techno splattered with paintballs of punk fury and modern minimalist composition. Born in Japan but residing in Brighton, England, DJ Scotch Egg has been offering up schizophrenic dance music for the Nintendo generation since 2005 when he released his debut KFC Core, which dealt candidly with his unhealthy obsession with the greasy fast food chain while inaugurating the dawn of a new level of frenetic insanity injected into electronic music. His newest album Drumized is a natural continuation of that insanity. The schizophrenic, high-octane freewheeling-ness of it all will surely conjure images of elves running around shooting rainbows that bleed crystals into a negative spiraling vortex made of teddy bears.” (Tinymixtapes.com)
