    LIFEM_Da_CruzGENRE:
A collision between bossa, indie-rock, electro, samba, dubstep and jazz. Da Cruz stands for an urban Brazilian music far away from the well-known clichés.

    MORE ABOUT:
The artist Da Cruz, full name Mariana Da Cruz, a Paulista with Bahian roots started (after the typical church-choir career) to sing Bossa Nova and MPB in the rather obscure clubs of Campinas/Sao Paulo. The caprices of life wafted her to Lisbon, where she strolled between Fado-cellars and Electro-clubs, between Portuguese melancholy and fashionable progression and became the musically attraction of an Irish pub at the port of Lisbon. There Mariana Da Cruz met the Swiss producer Ane H. who was – with his band Swamp Terrorists – one of the pioneers of Electro-Metal. He was looking for a singer to start a new project and he was instantly attracted by this voice. With his mobile studio Ane H. returned to Lisbon for some test recordings, but soon they decided to work on a complete album in Switzerland.

They recorded 20 songs and on four of them they had the pleasure to work with the drummer Duduka Da Fonseca, who was the pulse-maker of Antonio Carlos Jobim (“Girl From Ipanema”) and jointly responsible for the greatest hits in the history of Brazilian music. Without forgetting Mariana’s Brazilian roots, they started to create their unique style between Bossa Nova, Breakbeats, Jazz, Samba Rock and Electro. The music of Da Cruz is partly danceable and partly it is just disturbingly beautiful.

The second album of Da Cruz is called “Corpo Elétrico” and was recorded in São Paulo and Berne. It includes 14 new songs with participations of the percussionist Bolão (Dorival Caymmi, Ivete Sangalo, Ney Matogrosso) and the British producers Da Lata. The CD is distributed in 33 countries.

“Da Cruz stands for a modern, a curious and a proud Brazil”, says Mariana Da Cruz. “There are so many boring clichés around, about my country. With my music I try to show, that there is a Brazil far away from carnival, bikinis and samba-plumes – there is also an urban, progressive, open but still romantic Brazil with a sane respect towards its traditions and culture.
